Swim Meet 101
Swim meets typically start the second week in June and run for 6 consecutive Tuesday nights. We have 3 home and 3 away meets. Warm ups are at 5:00pm for home meets, 5:30 for away meets. We ask that you arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of warm-ups to get your swimmer ready and get their number on their arms.
Meets officially begin at 6pm and run for approximately 3 hours.
Order of Events

Main Events
The main events at meets are the first race of each stroke for either boys or girls. Swimmers are limited to three main events per meet, 2 for 6 and Unders. Main events and relays are for points and determine which team wins the meet.
Heats
A heat is a race of the same stroke after the main event.
What to bring to a meet
- your swimmer in their team suit
- two towels
- snacks and drinks (or money for concessions)
- water
- team shirt
- chairs
- goggles.
- You may want to bring toys, books, or electronic games to amuse your swimmer between events.
Please be aware of the following rules during swim meets for both you and your swimmer:
- Parents cannot be behind the blocks during a swim meet, unless you are a timer, place judge, kid pusher or clerk of course.
- Do NOT approach the Stroke and Turn Judges during a meet. If you have a question about a call, please talk to the TSA Rep.
- Swimmers or parents should not approach, or hang out by the scorers or ribbon writers during the swim meet.
- Alcohol is not permitted at any TSA supported event.
- The only people allowed in the pool during a swim meet are the swimmers in their designated lanes. No one is allowed in the shallow end.
Tips for swim meets:
- Try to keep your swimmer from burning all their energy on the day of the meet. In other words, don’t spend the day at the pool or any vigorous activity.
- Please be on time for warm-ups.
- If you have signed up for a job shift, be at the pool by 5:30. Most teams hold a volunteer meeting prior to the start of the meet.
- At home meets, do not park on resident’s grass.
- It takes a village. Please have your swimmer prepared for every event!
Meet Check-out
Before leaving the meet, check with a coach to be sure your swimmer is not swimming in a final relay. Please also check in with the manager(s) before leaving a meet early or during a weather delay.
Posting of Meet Events
Meet events are posted on the fence prior to the meet. Your swimmer's events are also listed on Swimtopia.
6 and Under Considerations
- There are no 6 and under relays. This is because most cannot swim all the way across the pool. However, 6 and unders can swim in older age group (8 and unders or older age group) relays if they are able. Swimmers and parents will be notified the day of if they will be swimming up.
- 6 and unders only swim in three events (free, back, breast). They do not swim butterfly.
- Please always keep an eye on your swimmer during the meet and know where they are at all times and when they swim.
- 6 and unders will have kid catchers in the water waiting to catch the swimmers at the line after their 15 yard swim. If they are unable to swim 15 yards on their own, a kid catcher will begin with them at the blocks and guide them to the rope. This will only happen during heats, not main events.
