Meet #4 Recap (PLEASE READ TO THE END!)
BBW/HL 220, Wendell 278
What a night! Thankfully it was a *little* cooler than last week, but our swimmers were on FIRE! They had 37 more swimmers than we did, and despite our loss, we sure did put up a good fight!
There were lots of exciting races last night and SO MANY personal records broken! Coach Ben will be writing a TON of speeding tickets this week! Here’s a bit of a breakdown on dropped times (the results will be hung at the pool today for you to see all of the yellow highlighted dropped times):
4 relays
25 freestyle swimmers
20 backstroke swimmers
21 breaststroke swimmers
16 butterfly swimmers
In addition, here are just a few outstanding personal records:
Andi (6 and under freestyle) dropped 4.51 seconds!
Cami (6 and under freestyle) dropped 15 seconds!!
Olive (9/10 freestyle) dropped 8.85 seconds!
Vince (6 and under back) dropped 4.82 seconds!
Caleb (6 and under back) dropped 5.13 seconds!
Rhodes (6 and under back) dropped 4.96 seconds!
Daniela (11/12 back) dropped 5.08 seconds!
Rhodes (6 and under breast) dropped 5.38 seconds!
Nora Wagner (7/8 breast) dropped 4.49 seconds!
Lilli Wells (9/10 breast) dropped 8.84 seconds!
Olive (9/10 breast) dropped 8.26 seconds!
Charlie (11/12 breast) dropped 9.12 seconds!
Wyatt (7/8 butterfly) dropped 5.08 seconds!
Charlie (11/12 butterfly) dropped 4.77 seconds!
(Our older swimmers definitely had some dropped times as well, but it’s much harder at their age to drop so drastically. They definitely had some major accomplishments, too! Please forgive me if I missed anyone’s major dropped times, it was not intentional.)
There’s much more than I listed here. Check out the results on SwimTopia and on the heat sheet posted at the pool! We could not be more proud of the effort our swimmers put in last night! We had great attendance at practices this week and it sure does show!! Way to go, Dolphins!
We are also very proud of our coaches! They have been working so hard with swimmers at practices and it really shows! Please tell them how much you appreciate them when you see them this week!
We are so thankful for all of our volunteers! It truly is not possible to run a meet without your help! We especially appreciate all of the extra help last night including everyone that helped with parking (Romana, Bruce, Steven, Keith, Ben & Liam parked over 99+ cars!), Caitlin for filling in for kid pusher (and for singing so beautifully each week!), Ellen for offering help with a variety of jobs, Matt for taking on the role of starter, Melanie for always offering a helping hand, and everyone that helped with clean-up! An extra special thank you to Patrick for his 15+ years of service as our starter–you will be missed! We know this is a huge commitment between practices (only 7 more left!) and meets (only 2 more left!) and we cannot thank you enough. Our home meets were all a success thanks to all of you!
Super huge shout out to the best Concessions team in the Tarheel Swim Association! What a dream team! Last night alone, they took in over $1600!! This was a record year overall for concessions earning over $5000 (gross)! But it’s not just about the money! They are quite the team within the team behind those concessions tables! Bryan and Alison—thank you for all that you do before, during, and after our home meets. It’s a LOT of work to prep, purchase, cook, and sell everything. You are AMAZING! And to Chris, Sarah, Matt, Scott, and anyone else that has worked concessions this season, we appreciate all of you!
Congratulations once again to our Senior Swimmers–Clint and Ben! Like we said last night, we are so proud of all of your and your accomplishments, but most especially we are so thankful for all that you’ve contributed to our team, both in the pool and out! You will be missed! We wish you all the best!
Main event ribbons will be distributed this week at practices.
EAT PASTA SWIM FASTA signups are now open! This event will be held on Monday, July 7th at the BBW pool. Practices will be condensed that day and we’ll start the pasta dinner at 6pm. We are asking everyone to please RSVP by Sunday evening and sign up (under JOBS) on SwimTopia to bring a dish to share. This will be a great way for everyone to fuel up to make it through our last two meets!
Our next meet is AWAY vs. Southall on TUESDAY, JULY 8th. If you haven't already done so, please check your swimmers' attendance and make adjustments on SwimTopia as necessary. If you do not mark “not attending,” Swimtopia automatically assumes your swimmer will be there and we prefer parent confirmation! Please also review your volunteer assignment and reach out to neighbors and friends to swap if you cannot make it (if you do swap, please let one of our volunteer coordinators know!). More information regarding the meet will be in Sunday’s email.
