Meet #3 Recap
BBW/HL 180, Crabtree 323
Another tough loss to a team that had double the amount of swimmers, but the Dolphin spirit shone through! We had SO many big achievements last night to be proud of!
First–we all survived the heat! Thank you to the Hudsons for setting up the misting station, James Wells and Zack Oakley for the fans, and Myles for leading the charge for a spectator PLUNGE. Thank you to all of our parents and grandparents that came and supported our swimmers with lots of water, shade, cooling towels, fans, sugar, and encouragement!
Second–We are SO proud of our swimmers! They shook hands after each race and at the end of the meet and swam hard despite the 93 degree water temps! Check out the heat sheet posted at the pool this afternoon. All of the dropped times are highlighted in yellow—and there is a LOT of yellow!!! Shout out to a couple of our swimmers who swam in their first meet last night—Cami, Tucker, and Daniela! Way to go!!! We also had an ace return to the water after a medical leave–Gavin Dolby–and it looked like he hadn’t missed a day in the water! We had some serious dropped times from Nora W., Graham, J.D., Tyler, and a whole bunch of others! Several of our relays blew us out of the water with excitement, too–especially the girls 11/12 freestyle team and the Mens 15/18 races! The energy, y’all! Love it! Main event ribbons will be given out during practices this week!
Third–what an achievement by our many volunteers! Huge thanks to our volunteers who weathered the heat storm! Austin Grimes and Robyn Penick–we appreciate you getting your sweat on early with us to help with set-up; Lindsey & Josh Faucette and Josh Barrett for your help with parking that extraordinary amount of cars; Steven Huntley for coming down to help set up the Meet Maestro/Time Drops system even though you were off and for Ellen Gorham and Keith Dolby for running it smoothly throughout the night! Thanks to our phenomenal concessions team–Alison & Bryan Hudson, Chris Hudson, Sarah & Matt Granahan—for braving the heat from the grill on top of the heat dome as well as feeding us delicious food (not to mention the record breaking sales—over $1300!!)! Thanks to Kris Gorham for taking on a new and not-so-easy position, OOF, and to ALL of our volunteers, thank you for sweating it out with us! Please know we are SO thankful for each and every one of you! We couldn’t do this without you!
Lastly, we are so proud of our coaches! They have been working so hard—and we are so thankful for each of them! Their enthusiasm and dedication to our swimmers is phenomenal! We appreciate all that they do each day and at our Saturday clinics (shout out to the coaches for last Saturday’s record breaking numbers! Thank you for spending your weekend working with our Dolphins!). They continuously help our swimmers refine their strokes, keep up their spirits, and encourage them to achieve their personal best, as well as work hard for the team! Feel free to join us in saying thank you to them when you see them at practices this week!
The days following a meet are a great way for the coaches to work with swimmers on tweaking strokes and refining mistakes noticed during the meet–please try to attend if your family is able! There are some potential storm possibilities this afternoon, but as of right now, we are planning on a regular practice schedule! Stay tuned to SwimTopia for updates as needed!
Three down, Three to go! Our last HOME meet is vs. Wendell on TUESDAY, JULY 1st. If you haven't already done so, please check your swimmers' attendance and make adjustments on SwimTopia as necessary. If you do not mark “not attending,” Swimtopia automatically assumes your swimmer will be there and we prefer to have parent confirmation! Please also review your volunteer assignment. More information regarding the meet will be shared in Sunday’s email!
