Week 3 Dolphin News PLEASE READ

What a great week—the weather was (almost) perfect, the water warmed up, and we got some good practice in! Kudos to the swimmers (and parents) that showed up on Thursday despite the rain!

🐬Time Trials were spectacular! Great weather, great team spirit, fantastic volunteer help, fast swimming, and we finished before 7:30pm! In addition, our concessions made more than $600–Thank you for supporting our team! We had some frustrations and delays with Meet Maestro syncing (some glitches the company needs to work out at the start of each season) and are hoping things run more smoothly for our Meet Maestros next week!

🐬Saturday Swim Clinic: What a turnout! We had over 20 swimmers in the water practicing starts and turns! Thank you to all of our families that came! Our next swim clinic will be held on Saturday, June 21st.

🐬Message from Coach Ben: Hey Dolphins! We had a wonderful clinic on Saturday and saw a lot of improvement with our starts. I really recommend coming to the clinics as we always see great improvement during them. Our first swim meet is on Tuesday, so let’s make sure we bring our A Game! I also cannot stress enough how important it is to come to practice–that is the only way we get better and the only way for us to learn new things. We have spent a lot of time lately working on breaststroke and butterfly and if your kids are not at practice, they won’t improve. Go Dolphins!

🐬Meet #1: Our first Meet is this Tuesday, June 10th at HOME vs. Coachmans.

Our swimmers need to be ready to warm up promptly at 5:00pm, so this means that you should be at the pool before that time (ideally 4:30-4:45) so that your swimmer can be ready with their goggles and number. If swimmers choose to wear a cap, it cannot have another team logo or school logo.

All volunteers please check in at the volunteer table by 5:30 (unless you are scheduled to be our Meet Set-Up, please arrive by 4:00 or Parking, please arrive by 5:00!). Be ready for a volunteer meeting at 5:45pm.

See the Meet 101 information on SwimTopia for ideas on what to bring with you to the meet or ask a Coach manager or veteran family for some helpful tips on Meets! We recommend camp chairs, extra towels, and things to keep your kids busy in between races. Please be sure to set-up on the far side of the pool. We reserve the area under the pergola (near concessions) for the visiting team.

Please consider walking or carpooling to the meet. If you do drive, please park at the top of the hill. We reserve the parking area closest to the pool for the away team. Feel free to drop off your swimmer and then park. Please also park facing into the natural area vs parallel to the street to fit more cars along the road. Please DO NOT park on our neighbors lawns!

The 6 and unders will have a butterfly cupcake race immediately following their breaststroke races. Coaches will be in the lanes with the 6 and unders while they swim “butterfly.” At the end they will receive a cupcake. This is not mandatory; only swimmers that want to try for a cupcake are welcome to swim! Since they do not officially swim butterfly, they are free to leave after they finish swimming breaststroke or after the cupcake race. However, please check with Coach Ben before leaving to make sure your swimmer is not swimming in a final freestyle relay before you leave.

All swimmers in main events will get their ribbons at practice this week; 10 & under swimmers in heats will get a ribbon at the meet.

🐬Meet Attendance in SwimTopia: We have a lot of swimmers that are not yet marked as either attending or not attending for this meet. As requested in the past few emails, it would be great if you could take a moment and mark your swimmer attending or not for each meet for the season (see last week’s email for directions on how to do so in SwimTopia). SwimTopia automatically assumes “attending,” but we really prefer to have parent confirmation. Please mark your attendance by 6pm tonight!

In addition, since it is so early in the year, and some of our younger swimmers are still feeling quite hesitant about participating, if you feel that your child is just not quite ready to swim in the meet yet, please mark them as “not attending.” We encourage all of our swimmers to give it a try, but understand the hesitancy this early in the season. In addition, if you think they only want to try to swim freestyle, and/or another stroke, mark them as “attending” and let Coach Ben know so he can mark them in SwimTopia accordingly. This will help tremendously in the meet set-up, as day-of-meet changes are very hard to make happen when we are dealing with another team on deck.

The following swimmers are listed as “not attending” for this meet. If this information is incorrect or if your child gets sick the day of the meet or something else comes up, please let us know ASAP.It is very hard to switch the lineup the day of the meet. Coach Ben @ 919-889-4232 or Jill @ 757-580-4021 or Joanna @ 973-670-0923
