    Week 9 Dolphin News

Please read the following email for information regarding our LAST WEEK OF SWIM!

🐬Meet #6: Our very last meet of our 25th season is AWAY at Southall on Tuesday, July 16th. Two years ago at this location, the overall meet was rather upsetting as we had three cars broken into during the meet, among other things. Rest assured, we will do all that we can to make sure none of this happens again, including having two parking attendants from our team periodically monitor the lot. We ask that you also please do what you can as well by not leaving any valuables in your car!

Time: Please plan to arrive by 5:15 at the latest, so swimmers can be ready with numbers on their arms for warm-ups right at 5:30.

Pool Address: Their address is 2605 Southall Road Raleigh, NC 27604. Once you turn onto Southall Rd., the pool is on the right about two miles down. It is NOT in the Southall subdivision, but rather directly off of Southall road.

Seating: Look for the BBW Dolphins banner and set up on that side of the deck. In the past, we’ve been positioned straight ahead as you walk in through the pool gates. As always, it’s a good idea to bring your own chairs and pop-ups in case there isn’t enough seating or shade.

Concessions: We have not yet heard from them regarding what they will be serving but hopefully there will be plenty of snacks and goodies!

Timing: They have Time Drops as their timing system. They have 6 lanes.

TSA Rules: Please remember that TSA rules state that no alcohol is to be consumed on deck.

Volunteers: Please review the jobs you have signed up for. There will be a volunteer meeting before the start of the meet.

6 & Unders: 6 and Unders do not swim butterfly, so they are free to leave after they finish swimming breaststroke, however please check with Coach Ben before leaving to make sure your swimmer is not swimming in the final relay before you leave. We do not yet know if there will be a 6 and Unders butterfly cupcake race. We will let you know as soon as we find out!

Gone List: The following families have marked themselves “not attending” this meet. If your swimmer will not be at the meet, and you are not on this list, or if your child gets sick that day or something else comes up, please let us know ASAP. Swimtopia automatically assumes your swimmer(s) are attending the meet unless you mark otherwise. Please check your swimmers status on Swimtopia now! Coach Ben @ 919-889-4232, Andrea 561-441-1085, or Jill @ 757-580-4021. Coach Ben sets the lineup on Sunday evenings and it is really hard to change the lineup after that.

    🐬Coaches Corner:

From Coach Ben: I hope everyone has been having a great weekend. I am really excited for our last meet. IF YOU ARE AROUND PLEASE COME TO THE MEET. They have a lot of swimmers!

Earlier this week, I was advertising some year round swim teams, mainly WAVE and MOR. There are other teams in the Raleigh area including the Optimist Otters, YOTA, the TAC Titans, RSA, and the Marlins of Millbrook. For our area, I most recommend WAVE or MOR.

I personally swim on Wave and do recommend them for all ages and all skill levels. I have been on the team for 9 years and have been swimming there since I was 7. I have been in almost every single age group on the team. If you have more questions you can either ask me, go to the wave website: https://www.gomotionapp.com/team/ncwave/page/home, or email [email protected].

The Marlins of Raleigh (MOR) Swim Team continues to be ranked as one of the top 25 clubs in the nation by USA Swimming. They have multi-site programs with various locations in Wake and Johnston counties. Besides year-round swimming they also have seasonal programs. If interested in obtaining additional information about MOR, you can go to their website: https://www.gomotionapp.com/team/ncmrwa/page/home, contact Coach Cara Cameron at [email protected], or call (919) 851-3000.

From Coach Mindy: A huge congrats to all those Junior Dolphins who swam in the last home meet on 7/9. Way to show up Mary-Shepard Penick, Rhodes Penick, Claire Wagner, Nora Wagner, Nora Hudson, Reese Harris, Andi Harris, Vince Nicolsen, Emmett James, Walker Griffin, and June Gorski! We knew you could do it! We have practices 7/15, 7/17, 7/22, 7/24! Hope to see you all and let’s finish up the season! Last meet is at Southall 7/16 and will determine who wins the division! End of season party 7/18! Sign up on Swimtopia!

🐬Wednesday, July 17th is GAME DAY! As a fun way to end the season, join the coaches for games in the pool during the following times:

    9 and ups: 4:15 to 5:00

    8 and unders: 5:00 to 5:30

🐬 TSA Championship Meet: You should have received a Swimtopia email from Jill with details regarding extra practices and the meet if your child is signed up. If you did not, please let her know!

🐬 End of Season Party will be on Thursday, July 18th from 6-8pm at Hunter’s Landing Pool (address: 1913 Pendelton Dr. Raleigh, NC 27614). Please RSVP now on Swimtopia if you haven’t already done so. Please bring dinner for your family and a dessert to share. There will be a pizza food truck as an option for dinner. You can preorder pizzas by texting your order to (803) 718-0614. Pre-orders must be placed by Wednesday night. Coaches will be passing out paper plate awards, medals and trophies. We look forward to celebrating the completion of our 25th season with all of you!

🐬 Share your thoughts! Please use the following link to share your thoughts on the season. We’d appreciate hearing your thoughts (positive and/or negative) regarding coaching, social events, communication, management, practices, meets, and anything else you can think of! Our final committee meeting of the season will be on August 1st when we will review what you have shared and begin to consider ideas for next year. https://forms.gle/kY4PhEdYytx9nvHGA

🐬Off Season & Year Round: During the winter, try to bring your swimmers to the public pools (Optimist or Millbrook Exchange) occasionally. Your child(ren) will benefit from getting in the water in the off-season and it will make the transition to a new age group even easier at the start of a new swim season!

If your children are interested in year round swimming or if you have questions about any of the year round teams, reach out to Coach Ben (Wave), Coach Christian (MOR), or Coach Charlotte (MOR), as well as parents in any of these families: Smiths (Wave), Smiths (MOR), McGowans (Wave), Granahans (Millbrook Marlins), Hagans (Racing Knights), Wises (MOR), Huntleys (MOR), & Chitsazs (Wave).

🐬Shadowing for key volunteer positions! We have had some folks share that they are interested in shadowing some key positions for next year and/or for joining the Swim Team Committee and we are extremely grateful for your willingness to step up! We are always looking for volunteers to help out and take on a larger role, especially for the following positions: Managers, Meet Maestro, TSA, Stroke and Turn, Social, and Financials/Swimtopia Registration. If you are interested, or would like to learn more, please let us know! We’d be happy to chat with you about shadowing our current volunteers! Feel free to email, text, chat at a practice/meet, or add your contact information to the Parent Survey google form (link above).
